Propaganda Techniques

“He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt.” – Albert Einstein

Propaganda is the use of any persuasive technique, by any means, that attempts to influence the opinions, beliefs, emotions, attitudes, or behavior of an individual or a group for the benefit of the person or persons employing it. The goal of a propagandist is to mold opinion  to support their cause.

In 1937, the IPA (Institute for Propaganda Analysis) was created to educate the American public about the widespread nature of political propaganda. The IPA is best-known for identifying the seven basic propaganda devices: Name-Calling, Glittering Generality, Transfer, Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card Stacking, and Band Wagon.
